Rural Farming Empowerment

We are pleased to introduce our new farming project in Northern Ghana. Still in an early stage, we are currently selecting the ideal locations for implementation. Our focus is on sustainable farming methods that will contribute to local food production and create substantial employment opportunities. As our project matures over the years, our ultimate goal is to hand it over to the community.

WHY?

Poverty in African farming communities often results from low land yields. Traditional plowing disrupts soil life and moisture balance, leading to hardened soil and erosion. Attempts to address this with costly fertilizers yield short-term gains but contribute to long-term soil depletion and debt. We believe that breaking the cycle of poverty involves implementing sustainable methods.

Breaking the cycle of poverty involves implementing sustainable methods. By introducing farming projects that prioritize sustainable methods and focus on soil conservation, we aim to tackle poverty from two fronts. This approach not only contributes to local food production but also creates significant employment opportunities within the communities where we initiate these projects.

Finding the right location

Currently, we are in the process of identifying suitable locations. Given the long-term nature of this investment and our ongoing learning process, we are evaluating all aspects that will play a role, now and in the future. One crucial consideration is the suitability of the soil for sustainable farming practices. Additionally, we aim for a welcoming community, good accesibility, and availability of water and electricity. We are also assessing the legal framework related to land use, ensuring a secure environment for our farming project.

Foundations for farming

Foundations for Farming specializes in training farmers through soil conservation practices, aimed at achieving high yields. An example of this is making ones own compost and covering the ground with plant residues to prevent drying while enriching the soil. Also, plowing is avoided to stimulate soil life.

Our goal is to integrate these principles into our project. This requires time and commitment. Therefore, we will focus on understanding and implementing these practices thoroughly over the next few years.
